Mercedes-Benz Classic Magazine 1/2020: Around the world in 98 pages

  • “We are family”: The cover story celebrates the enthusiastic worldwide community of the famous brand with the star
  • Two-day trip with legendary designer Bruno Sacco in his C 126
  • Six #mercedesbenz classic cars from different eras photographed from an unusual perspective

The enthusiasm for classic cars sporting the star emblem is almost a family affair because the community of fans in effect forms one big family. The new issue of the #mercedesbenz Classic #magazine has chosen this topic as the cover story: Under the headline “We are family”, the article takes readers on a journey around the globe. The #magazine editors visited collectors and club members, all of whom tell their own very personal stories about their passion for their vehicles and the brand. At the same time, the article creates a fine link between more than 100,000 members of over 80 officially recognised brand clubs. The message: That the community sporting the famous star is at home all over the world.

The new issue will be published on 12 June 2020. The #mercedesbenz Classic #magazine, designed and produced by the Looping Group on behalf of the company, also has something to celebrate with this issue: This is the 60th issue! The publication has delighted readers with its outstanding stories about the brand’s classic cars and the people behind them since 2002. With its varied mix, every issue is well received – as are the well-written stories and impressive images by renowned authors and photographers.

On the road with a legend

Bruno Sacco. The name is music to the ears not only of aficionados of the brand – the former #mercedesbenz head of design is also known worldwide. During his time in office, he left his mark on several generations of vehicles such as the S-Class, the SL-Class and the E-Class. 1982 saw the addition of the 190 model series and with it, the dawn of the compact class, which transitioned into the later C-Class segment. The further diversification of the brand in the 1990s, including the SLK and the A-Class, also bore the signature of the chief designer of the time, and not forgetting contemporary commercial vehicles, for which he also had design responsibility.

The request by #mercedesbenz Classic #magazine for an interview with Bruno Sacco resulted in a two-day trip in his own C 126 model series coupé together with the author and a photographer. One fascinating aspect is that Sacco provided handwritten comments exclusively for the #magazine on three highlights of his work. Readers of Classic #magazine can experience the trip with the dream car almost as if they were there.

Motoring stars in a new light

Magazine readers are offered an unusual view of six #mercedesbenz classic cars of several different model types and eras – from underneath. It’s like standing under the cars on a lifting platform. They have been photographed from a technically realistic viewpoint and with very clear details. The photos show underbodies, tyres, exhaust systems, engines – each of the cars is shown in the current issue on a double-page spread and it is almost as if you could read off the individual part numbers of the components. The spread is, at the same time, a puzzle: Who can recognise all the cars at the first go?

The current issue contains more unusual stories, including these:

  • Experiencing a dream car: 50 years of #mercedesbenz C 111-II
  • She loves her “Baby Benz”: Influencer Shareen Raudies
  • Passions alight: Two historic fire engines in action

The #mercedesbenz Classic #magazine 1/2020 will be available from 12 June 2020 as a German and an English edition in the #mercedesbenz Museum shop, at newsagents and online (www.mercedes-benz-classic-store.com/collection/classic-magazin/).
